09 November 2018, Yangon, Myanmar – PTTEP Myanmar Asset, together with PTT Group, the Myanmar Ministry of Electricity and Energy and Ministry of Education, granted twenty students High Vocational Diploma Scholarships (HVD) at the award ceremony at Novotel Yangon Max hotel today; reinforcing its commitment to developing highly competent manpower to support grooving Myanmar economy, especially within oil & gas industry.

The award ceremony was honored by the presence of U Htay Aung, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Electricity and Energy, Dr. Aye Myint, Director General, Ministry of Education and Ms. Sunee Areekul, Executive Vice President, International Business Strategy and Development, PTT Group.

“A skilled and competent workforce is essential for Myanmar’s pathway to sustainable growth. To meet the growing demand for talent, PTTEP Myanmar Asset introduced the HVD Scholarship Program in 2013 to help develop and empower a strong and capable workforce to drive the country’s development,” commented Mr. Piya Sukhumpanumet, General Manager, PTTEP Myanmar Asset at the event.

“In March this year, we celebrated the graduation of 31 Myanmar individuals from the second batch of HVD students. I am glad to be able to welcome another 20 deserving students to the sixth edition of the scholarship program, and encourage each of you to maximize this opportunity to improve your capabilities and future prospects,” he added.

The HVD Scholarship Program is a full, bond-free scholarship program offered by PTT Group to Myanmar students from the Associate of Government Technical Institute (AGTI). Under the program, students undergo four years of vocational education and training at the IRPCT in Thailand.

Incorporating both classroom, practicum and on-the-job internship training, the curriculum is designed to equip students with workplace communications and technical mechanical skills that are required for industry trades, such as electrical and electronics, mechanical drawings, welding and CNC[1] machining. Students are also trained in personal finance, business and entrepreneurship.

U Htay Aung, Deputy Permanent Secretary from the Ministry of Electricity and Energy highlighted that collaborations between private and public sector is crucial for maintaining the growth of the economy and long-term prosperity of the country.

“Myanmar is rich in natural resources, but to get the most out of it, industries such as Oil & Gas need local, skillful workforce. Vocational training, where students learn not only theory but practice, are essential to ensure Myanmar’s economy has the capacity to thrive,” he said. “Now into its fifth year, the HVD scholarship program is an excellent example of the continuous cooperation between Myanmar and Thailand. I look forward to more of such collaborative initiatives that facilities the sharing knowledge and building common experience with our neighbours.”

Initiated by PTT Group and its subsidiaries [2], the HVD Scholarship Program was launched in 2013 with the support and collaboration of Myanmar’s Ministry of Electricity and Energy and Ministry of Education. To date, 150 scholarships have been awarded to Myanmar students and 68 Myanmar HVD scholars have graduated from the program.
