5 Apr 2018

05 April 2018, Yangon, Myanmar – By 2020, PTTEP Myanmar Asset plans to have 75 percent of its Myanmar workforce staffed by local employees. Currently, about 55 percent of PTTEP Myanmar Asset’s workforces are local staff. This was announced by Mr. Piya Sukhumpanumet, General Manager, PTTEP International Limited, Yangon branch (PTTEPI), at the graduation ceremony of the second batch of Myanmar students from PTT Group’s High Vocational Diploma (HVD) Scholarship Program. The ceremony was held at IRPC Technological College (IRPCT), Rayong, Thailand, on 28 March 2018.

“Throughout our 29 years of operations in Myanmar, PTTEP Myanmar Asset has invested heavily in building a skilled and competent workforce for both our business and the country’s development. We have implemented various initiatives, such as the HVD Scholarship Program and the Career Development Program[1], to develop not only our employees but the wider Myanmar workforce as well.” Mr. Piya said. “I am glad to witness the graduation of the second batch of HVD students today, and would like to congratulate each and every one of them on their success.”

31 students received their diploma certificates at the ceremony, which was graced by U Htay Aung, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry Office, Myanmar Ministry of Electricity and Energy; Dr. Nay Myo Tun, Deputy Director General, Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Myanmar Ministry of Education; Mr. Nopporn Chuchinda, Executive Vice President, International Strategy and Development, PTT Group; and Mr. Piya.

The HVD Scholarship Program is a full, bond-free scholarship program offered by PTT Group to Myanmar students from the Associate of Government Technical Institute (AGTI). Under the program, students undergo four years of vocational education and training at the IRPCT in Thailand.

Incorporating both classroom, practicum and on-the-job internship training, the curriculum is designed to equip students with workplace communications and technical mechanical skills that are required for industry trades, such as electrical and electronics, mechanical drawings, welding and CNC[2] machining. Students are also trained in personal finance, business and entrepreneurship.

“Our hope for all HVD graduates is that the training program will bring more opportunities for their future and open the door to good jobs that will drive Myanmar’s long-term growth,” Mr. Piya explained. “We are honored to be part of Myanmar’s sustainable development and look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Government to grow human capital in Myanmar.”

Initiated by PTT Group and its subsidiaries[3], the HVD Scholarship Program was launched in 2013 with the support and collaboration of Myanmar’s Ministry of Electricity and Energy and Ministry of Education. To date, 130 scholarships have been awarded to Myanmar students and 68 Myanmar HVD scholars have graduated from the program.

“Today’s graduation ceremony serves as an excellent example of the cooperation between Myanmar and Thailand. I hope that PTT Group will continue to sponsor such scholarships for many years to come,” said U Htay Aung.

Dr. Nay Myo Tun added: “Education does not only happen inside the classroom. It can be gained everywhere as long as you do not stop learning and broadening your horizons. Whether you would work for PTT Group or other companies, I wish that every one of you would ultimately capture opportunities to gain hands-on experience and eventually be a part of supporting the country’s development in the near future.”
